STEPHEN'S COLLEGE OF FILM MUSIC


A very well designed Foundation and intermediate level course in music composition. The course systematically teaches the students, who want to learn, understand and master the Techniques of Music composition to become a successful Music Composer. The student will learn how to compose a small motif and develop the motif into a phrase, Period and a Musical Sentence.

  • The technique of composing Rhythmic Motifs.
  • The technique of developing a Motif into a Phrase.
  • Rhythmic Phrases.
  • Rhythmic periods and Phrase groups.
  • The tools and techniques of Rhythmic development-1.
  • The tools and techniques of Rhythmic development-2.
  • The technique of composing Rhythmic motifs for different situations.
  • The technique of composing melodic motif.
  • The tools and techniques of Melodic development-1.
  • The tools and techniques of Melodic development-2.
  • The technique of writing the Melodic phrase.
  • The technique of writing Melodic period.
  • The tools and techniques of Melodic development-3.
  • The tools and techniques of Melodic development-4.
  • The concept of using passing notes and auxiliary notes in writing a tune.
  • Final Project.

  • Requirements

    Prerequisites

  • Age 16+
  • The student must have completed Music Theory 1, 2 and 3 courses or must have completed Grade 8 theory exam conducted by Trinity College of Music, London or ABRSM. The Student should be good in Western Music Notation reading and writing and also must know the concept of Melodic Transcription.

  • A Handbook of Musical Knowledge by James Murray Brown.
